Flat Trainers

Flat Trainers

We at Horse Racing World take a look at some of the very best flat trainers in GB and Ireland starting with the brilliant Irish trainer, Aiden O'Brien

Aiden O'Brien

Aiden ObrienAidan O'Brien is the leading Irish horse racing trainer, particularly over recent years. He is the private trainer for John Magnier and his associates at Coolmore Stud and heads up the training operation at Ballydoyle Stables in Ireland.

O’Brien has trained the winners of virtually every big race in Europe and is probably the most revered trainer in flat racing today. Having won the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe in 2007 with Dylan Thomas, he went on to even greater things in 2008 with 23 group One winners

Sir Michael Stoute

Sir Michael Stoute has been training horses since 1972. He was the only trainer in the 20th century to win an English Classic in five successive seasons and has been Champion Trainer nine times. He trains many of the horses owned by HM The Queen and has a number of other leading owners. He has won all five of the English Classics, with his latest success coming in 2008 when he broke his duck in the St Leger, when Conduit came home.

Jim Bolger

Jim BolgerJim Bolger has for many years now been acknowledged as one of the true racing greats in Ireland. His genius is confirmed by the fact that Aidan O'Brien, Tony McCoy and Paul Carberry were all apprenticed to him before going on to even greater things.

During the 2006 flat season Bolger trained Teofilo who as a two year remained unbeaten. The five race unbeaten streak included victories in the Group 1 National Stakes and Dewhurst Stakes and talk of an attempt at the much vaunted English Triple Crown bid was headline news. However, Teofilo suffered a career ending injury in the lead up to the 2,000 Guineas and never saw a racecourse again. In 2007 another Bolger bred superstar emerged in the shape of New Approach, who went on o win the 2008 Epsom Derby. Bolger has also trained the winners of the Epsom Oaks, the Newmarket 1000 Guineas, the Irish Derby, Irish Oaks and the Irish 1000 Guineas.
